A Message from Bear Grylls

3 months to go!

So, 3 months to go until my walk across europe and I thought I'd update my blog... On friday the 17th of June I organised a fund raising event at Bishops stortford rugby club - it was really well attended; around 150 of my friends and family came along to support me! The space hoppers (local band) were exceptional!! I'd like to thank everyone for the amazing support, good wishes and the occasional hug! The total raised was £1365. Most of this was raised through a grand raffle, which local businesses dug deep and gave me everything from a bottle of wine, through to a quad bike (being auctioned soon)

My training started in earnest on the 20th of June, as I've always believed that in 3 months, even an old boy like me can become fit enough to walk across Europe. I've already been on several long walks (longest was a 2 day 53 mile walk) and felt like I'd been for a stroll in the park....

As you all my know I plan (I will) raise over 30k for combat stress - I'm currently looking for help from some generous individuals or businesses that will sponsor me to achieve this target!

I'd like to give special thanks to my brother in law Cliff who encouraged his company Inchcape to give us some amazing gifts - Zelly's the jewellers, Mark's & Spencer's for their kind donations. And of course my very understanding wife Myra, who without her support, this would have only have been a dream.

I'll be updating my blog regularly, so follow my progress and keep spreading the word!

Pete

'A Night of Adventurers' by Rosie Swale-Pope

'A Night of Adventurers' by Rosie Swale-Pope

On the 15th March 2011 I was invited along to 'A Night of Adventurers' by Rosie Swale-Pope (round the world runner).

The night included talks by 10 adventurers including Ed Stafford who in 2010 walked the length of the Amazon river in 860 days from source to sea.
Oli Broom who cycled 25000 miles from Lords cricket ground to Brisbane cricket ground Australia to watch England beat the Aussies in the Ashes! and Bonita Norris
who decided at the age of 25 to climb Mount Everest having NEVER climbed until 2 years previous, to her ascent.

These every day people show us the strength of the human spirit and that never give up attitude which we should all learn to have at least a little of!

The evening made me realise that everyday people can do extraordinary things and has given me more drive to achieve my GOAL!

WHAT A NIGHT!

Pete
